01
2011THE FIRST STEP

Jora joins Worksafe

A movement lawyer finds a platform built for collective action.

Jora brought years of civil-rights and employment-law experience to Worksafe. From the beginning, her focus was not only winning individual cases, but growing the power of workers and the organizations beside them.

2012—18A BIGGER TABLE

Worker centers become strategy partners

Legal aid, organizers, public-health experts and workers move in step.

Jora helped build durable connections across worker centers and legal-aid organizations—turning specialist knowledge into practical tools, shared campaigns and stronger representation for people in high-hazard, low-wage work.

2020THE FUTURE OF WORK

Race equity becomes foundational

The future of work must start with the people most exposed to harm.

In a Worksafe-led comment to California’s Future of Work Commission, Jora argued that worker experience, race equity and occupational health and safety belong at the center of any new social compact.

2020—22CRISIS → CONNECTION

Trusted messengers reach workers

A statewide response makes safety information more local, legible and human.

During the COVID workplace-outreach effort, Worksafe served as a Bay Area regional lead in a network of more than 100 community organizations. Together, partners created rights information across dozens of languages.

2024A DECADE-LONG FIGHT

Indoor heat protections take effect

Warehouse, restaurant and manufacturing workers gain a vital safeguard.

California’s first indoor heat standard took effect after years of advocacy. The win reflects the kind of long-haul coalition work Worksafe practices: worker knowledge, public health, policy and persistent organizing moving together.

The movement leads together

Jora steps forward as Co‑Executive Director and Chief of Movement & Legal Strategist.
